Be Treated.

Happy Halloween! I’m currently sitting on my couch, watching the Patriots and looking at the large bowl of candy sitting by my front door. As usual, I over-estimated the number of trick-or-treaters I was going to get and bought way too much candy. Now the question is what to do with all of this leftover candy. ¬†Here’s a few suggestions:

  • Bring the candy to your office and share the “wealth,” especially if you work in a service type industry and lots of different people will be coming in and out of your doors.
  • Make goodie bags for your kids sports teams or clubs.
  • Send it to Operation Gratitude. They package the candy into care packages for soldiers stationed overseas and the children in the communities they patrol. Mail packages to:¬†Operation Gratitude/California Army National Guard, 17330 Victory Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91406. Attn: Charlie Othold
  • Bring candy to local dentists who are participating in a candy buy-back program. Participating dentists will buy back extra halloween candy for $1 a pound and donate it to Operation Gratitude. You can find a participating dentist at http://www.halloweencandybuyback.com.
  • You can also donate the candy to local homeless shelters, fire departments, and/or police stations.

Tips for next year:

  • Buy your candy at the last minute.
  • Don’t buy your personal favorites.
  • Keep the number of trick-or-treaters you got this year in mind so you don’t over buy next year.
  • Consider giving out stickers or other small gifts instead of candy.
  • Keep in mind how many trick-or-treaters you got to help estimate how much you will need for next year.

Be Healthy. Be Balanced.
